Max Schreier

Born in Vienna, Austria in 1907, Max Schreier studied physics in Berlin where he met Albert Einstein, to whom many years later, he dedicated his book "Einstein desde los Andes de Bolivia".

In 1938, as a consequence of the Nazi invasion of Austria, Max Schreier emigrated to Bolivia, following an invitation from the Bolivian Army (FFAA) to carry out cartographic and geological surveys. In this manner he actively participated in the construction of many trunk roads and was the founder of the City of Caranavi.

He was a brilliant Professor at UMSA and a driving force for the study of Astronomy in our country, gathering together a group of young lovers of this science who still follow the road of their teacher. He founded the Observatorio Astronómico de Santa Ana rn Tarija and the Observatorio de Patacamaya. Until the last days of his life, despite of his advanced age, he closely followed the activities of the Planetarium which bears his name. He instilled enthusiasm and value in order to bring about new projects at the Planetarium, like the science and recreational park "Cota Cota".

Max Schreier died on the 25 May 1997.
